Ross Smith – debate coach, Wake Forest University. Workshop Director.
The curricular director of both the Summer Debate Workshop and the Policy Project, Ross takes a full-time lab-leader role once the Policy Project begins. He has coached the 1997 NDT National Champions, was named National Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1998, and District VI Coach of the Year in 2000. In Best of the Decade polling he was named Best Judge of the 1990's and Second Best Coach of the 1990's. He has qualified more teams to the elimination rounds of the National Debate Tournament than any other coach in the last decade and his teams have won every major intercollegiate invitational and round robin. In Fall 2006, Ross took his debate experience to another arena while campaigning for a position on the Forsyth County School Board in District 2. Ross is the Founder of the Open Source Debate Foundation, aimed, in the long term, at distributing the resources of policy debate into the national community at large. Ross is also the creator and director, debatescoop.org, the nations's only blog devoted to expert coverage of political candidate debates.



Jarrod Atchison – debate coach, University of Georgia
Jarrod Atchison was a successful Caddo Magnet High School debater who attended the very first Wake Forest Policy Project. While a debater for Wake Forest, Jarrod attended the N.D.T. all four years and received two first round bids. His senior year, Jarrod won several national tournaments culminating in a third speaker and 8-0 prelim performance at the 2001N.D.T. Since graduating, Jarrod has coached successful teams at Wake Forest and the University of Georgia that have received five first round bids to the N.D.T., three Kentucky Round Robin invitations, and several top five speaker awards. Jarrod is currently in his last year as a Ph.D. student at the University of Georgia and looking forward to returning to the staff of the Policy Project.

Stefan Bauschard – debate coach, Lakeland District high schools
President, PlanetDebate.com Currently the Director of Debate for the Lakeland School District (NY) and assistant debate coach of Harvard Debate. Stefan has coached over 25 National Debate Tournament qualifiers, national tournament elimination round participants, and a number of junior varsity and novice champions. Prior to Directing at the Lakeland School District and coaching at Harvard, Stefan coached at The St. Mark's School of Texas and Boston College. Previous to that, he taught at Cathedral Prep where he coached a number of TOC qualifiers, elimination round qualifiers at all major national tournaments, and the semifinalists at the Harvard College and Emory University tournaments. He was also a member of the coaching staff at Wake Forest University when they won the NDT in 1997. He has taught at over 15 debate institutes and has produced over 40 debate handbooks, and was the author of the popular Hitchhiker's Companion to the Cross-X Debate Topic. Stefan is now the editor of the Wake Debater's Topic Guide that is available from planetdebate.com

Adrienne Brovero – debate coach, University of Mary Washington
Adrienne debated for Wake Forest in the early 90s, winning multiple national tournaments and reaching the semi finals of the National Debate Tournament twice. She and her partner were also awarded the prestigious Rex Copeland Award as the top-ranked team during the regular season. Since then, Adrienne has coached at Wake, Michigan, Northwestern, Richmond, and is now the debate coach at the University of Mary Washington. As a coach, her teams have won nearly every tournament on the national circuit, including four National Debate Tournament championships. Adrienne has taught at summer debate institutes since 1990, including the Policy Project, the Michigan National Debate Institute, and Northwestern’s Coon Hardy and Zarefsky Scholars programs. This will be Adrienne’s second summer with the Fast Track.

Brad Hall – debate coach, Wake Forest University
Brad Hall debated at Wake Forest University for four years, and he is now an assistant coach and graduate student at WFU. During his college career, he received a first round at-large bid to the National Debate Tournament three times. At the NDT, he participated in the elimination rounds three times, making it to the octafinals his sophomore year and the quarterfinals his junior year. He was a finalist at the 2006 NDT, including an undefeated record on the negative. He received second place at the Dartmouth Round Robin, and was twice a participant in the University of Kentucky Round Robin. He cleared at every major college tournament, including reaching the semifinals or better of the University of Kentucky, the University of Southern California, Cal-State Fullerton (twice), the State University of West Georgia, Novice Nationals at Northwestern University, and the University of California at Berkeley. Individually, he received top 10 speaker awards at Georgia State, Harvard, West Georgia, and the NDT.

Fr. Raymond Hahn – debate coach, Cathedral Prep High School
Director of Forensics, Cathedral Prep. NFL Triple Diamond; Key Coach of the Barkley Forum. As a veteran coach of Policy Debate, Fr. Hahn's teams have been in the late elimination rounds of every major tournament, including the finals of the 2003 NFL Nationals tournament. Father Hahn has been teaching students how to debate for 30 years!

JP Lacy – debate coach, Wake Forest University
Currently a Debate Coach at Wake Forest University, JP is the former coach at Whitman College and debater at James Madison. He coached the 1999 CEDA National Champions. JP has coached teams to late elimination rounds a numerous national tournaments including Kentucky, Northwestern, Georgia State, West Georgia, Northwestern, The NDT and CEDA Nationals.

Jane Munksgaard – debate coach, University of Iowa
Jane debated for the University of Pittsburgh from 2001-2005 and the University of West Georgia from 2005-2006. She reached the elims of every major national tournament, including a Quarterfinals appearance at USC. She was a top twenty-five speaker at a variety of national tournaments and is currently a Ph.D. candidate and assistant debate coach at the University of Iowa. At the high school ranks, Jane is also an assistant coach for the College Preparatory School in Oakland, California. This will be Jane’s third year leading lab at Wake Forest.

Dr. Timothy O’Donnell – Director of Debate, University of Mary Washington
Tim has worked at the Wake Forest summer programs for the past twelve years. As the Director of Debate at Mary Washington College (MWC) in Fredericksburg, VA, he is quickly building one of the nation’s premier debate programs. He was recently awarded the American Debate Association’s (ADA) prestigious Lambert Award for excellence in coaching. He has also coached a team to the finals of the MBA tournament, as well as the Tournament of Champions (TOC).

Patrick Waldinger – debate coach, Boston College
Debate Coach, Boston College. Patrick Waldinger, a.k.a., Dinger, was an outstanding intercollegiate debater at the Catholic University of America. Among his many accomplishments, he won the varsity championship at the American Debate Association's National Tournament and qualified twice to attend the National Debate Tournament. Prior to coaching at Boston College, Patrick was an Assistant Debate Coach at Wake Forest University where he received his M.A. in Communication. Patrick has taught at workshops for 5 years, including 3 at Wake Forest, and is a researcher for the Debater’s Research Guide.

Ed Williams – debate coach, Calhoun High School
Ed is a coach at Calhoun High School and has been a high school debate coach for 15 years, including the enormously successful team at Charlotte Latin School in North Carolina followed by his Atlanta coaching years at Marist and Woodward Academy. He has started two programs from the ground up and has worked with students of all levels. His teams have been in final rounds at numerous major tournaments and he coached the top speaker at NFL nationals in 1993. He has been a summer institute instructor for 15 years, including five years at Dartmouth, six at Bates, and stints at Emory, and the University of Texas. This will be his third summer on the Wake Forest faculty.
